My name is Sofía Alba, and I work as a psychologist at the Centro Médico Teknon in Barcelona. Over the last eight years of practice, I have learnt to recognise anxiety and depression even when people are doing their utmost to hide them. It is noteworthy that none of them are aware of the five recommendations that work better than any medication in such cases. But let’s take it one step at a time.
Itzhak came to see me in February 2026. An immigrant and crypto enthusiast, he was psychologically exhausted not so much by the crypto market as by his own depressive thoughts.
Itzhak spoke quickly and haltingly as he recounted his sleepless nights, the outflow of over $2.4 billion from crypto funds in January–February 2026, and the mass sell-offs of Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, XRP and Polygon. He spoke of the panic that had gripped him as Bitcoin plummeted by nearly 50%. But, in reality, his real trigger lay elsewhere. And I realised this when he opened Google Trends and showed me the search query ‘Bitcoin going to zero’.
I had seen this before, and it was clear to me: when the information landscape becomes saturated with fear, the psyche begins to mirror it. His problem wasn’t with Bitcoin, but with the fact that he was seeking in it the stability he should have found within himself.
An anxious-depressive state, triggered by financial stress and information overload, leads to a loss of a sense of control, but not of motivation. Motivation always remains.
Once we had ‘worked through’ his mental state, I reminded him of five recommendations that work best in such difficult, stressful situations.
They are simple and effective – which is why I am sharing them with you.
1. Sleep routine – the human brain cannot recover without rest.
2. Limit news intake and eliminate information noise to reduce background anxiety.
3. Cognitive reappraisal – the market is not equal to personal value.
4. Social contact. Don’t isolate yourself or bottle things up; talk it through.
5. Daily walks by the sea to stabilise the nervous system.
When Itzhak left, I looked out of the window. The city was alive and pulsating. It was a rhythm. Throughout all this, one thing is worth remembering: the history of cryptocurrencies is cyclical, and even after massive crashes, Bitcoin has recovered. It’s just that sometimes people need to be reminded: fluctuations are merely a process.
